Designing Worlds Cafe at the Home and Garden Expo, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont
In our new episode of Designing Worlds, we are paying a second visit to the Home and Garden Expo. The Expo ran from 27th February to 21st March, and was a fabulous event with amazing displays of homes and furnishings, gardens and landscaping, and a range of art displays.

In this show, we explore the beautiful Designing Worlds cafe, in a building created by Danny Bourne, and landscaped and decorated for us by undercoverlady, visit the fun location of Waffleville (created for tiny.dinkie/petite designers and shoppers) with Kaerri Rae, organiser of the Expo, and talk to Stingray Raymaker, Ambassador for the American Cancer Society in Second Life.

And we also take a look at the Home Decorating Contest, talking to four of the contestants: Prokofy Neva, Terra Tepper, Madison Granger and Corvi Ashdene. Wildstar Beaumont has also supplied one of his wonderful slideshows of the decorated homes too! To find out the results … see this post!

After Tuesday’s very popular talk by residents of Bellisseria in the Theatre on Hope 3, we have rescheduled our talks for the weekend.
First of all we have the return of our Bellisserian friends to talk about life on the continent, in terms of design, community and events.
Then, on Sunday 21st March, at 2pm SLT, we will have our final Talk, a Show and Tell event, where where creators can bring their work and display and discuss it with the audience. These events are always very popular – and more so this time, perhaps, because we will also be releasing the names of the winners of the Home & Garden Expo Decorating Contest.
The way you vote is simple. There’s no need to bring your driver’s licence or any other form of identification – anyone can vote at any time!
Outside each of the fourteen houses in Hope Street is a kiosk for Relay for Life. You add your vote by paying Lindens into a kiosk – and the more Lindens you add, the more votes the house/s you have chosen will get.
If you like more than one house, it’s not a problem – you can vote for as few or as many of the houses as you want.

Last year our Home and Garden Decorating Competition had sixteen houses – and we were blown away by the standard of work you all produced!
Not only that – the competition also raised the amazing sum of 159,288 Lindens – that’s US$615.93 in total!
A sneak preview of the House Decoration Contest, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont
So this year it is back, with a very sneaky twist. This year we are cutting the number of prims/li you have to build with!
The houses are fourteen different builds, including two of seven different styles, including beach houses, tiny homes and one with a distinctively Mexican feel – the new Casa Blanca from Danny Bourne. Full details will appear in the blog and on the Home Decorating page shortly and you will, of course, be able to explore the full range at the Expo!

These homes and gardens will be decorated by fourteen finalists who will have 350 prims (land impact) to decorate the Home and the surrounding Garden area.
The finalists will be chosen by a raffle draw made by Saffia Widdershins, who will draw the names out of the equivalent of a Second Life hat (a random name generator script).
The finalists will be each assigned one of the fourteen houses, based on their preferences. Competitors can work alone or in pairs or in a small team.

In addition …
We invited the competitors to submit stories to go with their homes, if they wanted to, and several did. You can read these stories by clicking on the signs by the gates of each house. We were so impressed by the stories that we decided to run a second competition for the best three stories.
Lantern Release, photographed by Wildstar Beaumont
These will be judged and the results announced at the Final Lantern Ceremony at 4pmSLT on the roof of the theatre on Hope 3 – when we all ride the Lanterns (more details about that to come).
And that will be followed by a party in the gardens of the Designing Worlds cafe at the Expo (designed by undercoverlady), dj’d by DaveOSaurus.
The Home and Garden Decorating Competition is now finished!
The winners will be announced at 2pm SLT today at the Decorating Street – which will give people a chance to inspect all the houses (and maybe donate a little more to Relay for Life of Second Life!
