Prizes for the Home and Decorating Contest!

As of this morning, the total raised by the voting in the Home and Garden Decorating Contest is higher than last year’s – standing at 159,845 Linden Dollars – that’s 670.30 in US dollars!

Thank you all so much – but let’s keep the votes rolling in – the polls (aka RFL Kiosks) are now open on Hope 3 until 12 noon on Sunday 21st March!

Upcoming Talks at the Home and Garden Expo: Today with Patch Linden!

We had a fascinating range of talks in the first week of the Home and Garden Expo, and we’re now into week 2 with some great interviews lined up.

Today, Wednesday 10th at 2pm SLT, Patch Linden, Vice President of Product Operations at Linden Lab, will be talking to Saffia Widdershins in the theatre on Hope 3 about Linden Homes, Bellisseria and much more!

And on Friday 12th at 2pm, some of the Moles from the Linden Department for Public Works will be joining Saffia at 2pm SLT to talk about their work for Linden Lab with events, games and, of course, builds such as the continent of Bellisseria!

This will be followed by a group of Bellisserian residents talking about their homes and lives, and the community of Bellisseria at 2pm on Tuesday 16th March at 2pm SLT.

And we have more great talks with designers and event organisers to come! Below are just a selection of the talks – as designers talk to Saffia Widdershins and Cinders Vale.

Finally, on Saturday March 20th, we’ll have a second Show and Tell session, where creators can bring their work and display and discuss it with the audience. These events are always very popular!

Home & Garden Expo 2021

Here Is The Date!

The largest and longest running home and garden event in SL, The Home and Garden Expo returns the 27th February to 21st March 2021. Exhibitors will have access to set up their displays as early as 20th February, and the regions will be open for preview for our blogger team on 25th February. (Possibly earlier access for set up depending upon when regions are received and ready to roll) 

The Home & Garden Expo is an event that seeks to support Relay For Life of Second Life, as well as its exhibitors and guests. Expo exhibitors are required to have one (1) Relay For Life of Second Life 100% donation item at the Expo. This item must be new and exclusive to the Expo for the duration of the event. RFL of SL also benefits via the Gachas, where proceeds are evenly split between the Creator and RFL of SL.

It's time … to ride the lanterns – and Party!

Well, it will be time at 4pm SLT today, Sunday 22nd March.

Throughout the weeks of the Home and Garden Expo, we have had calm, peaceful times at 4pm each day when the lanterns are released. It provided a space for meditation and reflection. We thought of those who have gone before us in the fight against cancer, and also those who are fighting cancer, or supporting others through it.

Today, as the Expo comes to an end, we will celebrate this event with one last explosion of joy and thanksgiving for all those we love and have loved, all those who have stood together with us on the fight.

Tonight, with special music supplied by DaveOSaurus, we will watch those lanterns rise … and some us will RIDE them into the night sky.

And then we will come down into the gardens at the Designing Worlds cafe and dance until 6pm!

We invited the competitors to submit stories to go with their homes, if they wanted to, and several did. You can read these stories by clicking on the signs by the gates of each house. We were so impressed by the stories that we decided to run a second competition for the best three stories.

These will be judged and the results announced at the Final Lantern Ceremony at 4pmSLT on the roof of the theatre on Hope 3 – when we all ride the Lanterns (more details about that to come).

And that will be followed by a party in the gardens of the Designing Worlds cafe at the Expo (designed by undercoverlady), dj’d by DaveOSaurus.

SkyeRyder Varriale speaks at the Home and Garden Expo!

Elizabeth Burleigh is the alter-ego of real life mythic artist & author Mary Layton. In Second Life, she is the jewellery designer for Ashbourne & Co.

She says: “In 2008 m’colleague, Gryffyn Ashbourne and I founded our own jewellery line, in the tradition of the great jewellery houses of Europe.”

Her artwork is displayed at the Blue Moon Atelier Gallery In Caledon II.

Meet DeGirlo, owner of Flying Arts, at today’s Talk at the Home and Garden Expo!

DerGirlo juggles an artistic nature, a philosophical soul and a scientific nature. A modern renaissance gal who has actually worked those type of fairs. She loves nature, books, walks, motorcycles, photography, as well as art and creation in all it’s forms.

She’ll be talking to Saffia about her store, Flying Arts. Eclectic and sometimes eccentric offerings of food, furnishing, fashion, fun , buildings, photo props, landscaping and more. Flying Arts creates whatever catches the imagination and offers it up to enrich your enjoyment of Second Life.
